$19 per hour

TIME FRAME: SHORT TERM, SEASONAL POSITION

April 11- May 6, 2025


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Cultural Heritage Manager and the Folk Department, assist in executing the Folklife staff’s plan for building the Folklife Village. This includes coordinating and setting up visual exhibits and presentation areas. During the event, support Folk & NAV demonstrators and performers as directed by the Cultural Heritage Manager.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Field Crew in assembling field tents, demonstration stages, educational displays, and decorative tent components (e.g., lattice, shelving, pegboard).
  • Coordinate with other departments to request necessary materials (e.g., signs, beverages, snacks, tools).
  • Ensure that all furnishings and materials for the Folk area are properly placed on the field.
  • Oversee exhibit set-up on designated set-up days.
  • Implement necessary adjustments between Week One and Week Two of the event.
  • Manage load-in and load-out on both set-up and event days.
  • Supervise and maintain hospitality areas during event days.
  • Circulate throughout the Folk/NAV area to ensure the integrity of displays and demonstrators.
  • Assist at the Info Booth, addressing questions from volunteers and festival attendees.
  • Serve as a point of contact for demonstrators, ensuring their needs are met and addressing any issues.
  • Support the NAV Consultant with pow-wow and other performance setups.
  • Assist the Folk Administrative Assistant with volunteer distribution and keep the Cultural Heritage Manager informed of volunteer placements.
  • Report any significant situations to the Cultural Heritage Manager before or during the event.
  • Oversee the breakdown of all exhibit areas post-festival, ensuring all supplies are loaded, inventoried, and stored properly.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Using the Absentee Request Form, it is the responsibility of each employee and their supervisor to accurately report their absenteeism to the HR Office.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues.
  • Must attend and complete any required training.
  • Any document, computer program, design or other intellectual property created for the Jazz Festival belongs to the Jazz Festival and must be given to the Festival through your supervisor or department head at the end of each production year, or upon request.
  • Must complete all required Feedback Forms and Final reports
  • Perform all other work-related duties, as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Construction skills with experience using ladders and light tools such as screw guns, staple guns, hammers, and paint.
  • Basic knowledge of Louisiana folkways and experience in festival or special event production.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with folk demonstrators, artists, volunteers, construction crews, and festival staff.
  • Ability to move quickly across the event grounds on foot.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Stamina to work long hours in a fast-paced, high-energy production environment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
