Job Description

Under the direction of the Program Director of the LSU Health Science Center-School of Public Tobacco Control Initiative (TCI), the Program Assistant will provide support to program managers, field staff, and other team members that are working towards TCI’s mission. The incumbent shall be responsible for coordinating and maintaining information flow for all program related projects, activities, and personnel. This shall include coordinating communication among the program team, affiliated entities, program participants, vendors, contractors, and other collaborators, via calendar management, phone calls, and email correspondence; assisting with scheduling meetings, seminars, and workshops, including preparing agendas, summative minutes and final evaluative reports; and coordinating all program administrative functions to improve quality and efficiency, including purchasing and cataloging expenditures, assisting with tracking and managing deadlines, arranging travel and completing related forms, updating Curriculum Vitae and Biosketches, and updating program websites and social media to promote program services. This position requires anticipating needs, thinking critically, and offering solutions to problems with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This position does not involve developing, implementing, or managing public health programs. This position is eligible for remote work per Chancellor’s Memorandum-73 and School of Public Health Policies.

The starting salary will be based on the applicant’s qualifications with the salary range for this position starting at $42,000.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Health, or a related field with a minimum of two years of relevant or related work experience. A Master’s degree can substitute one year of experience.

Preferred Experience: A Master’s degree and experience in an institution of higher education and/or a state agency.

This position is funded by a contract with the Louisiana Cancer Research Center (LCRC). The Louisiana Tobacco Control Initiative (LA-TCI) housed within the LSU Health – New Orleans School of Public Health Community Health Science and Policy Program, promotes a multi-level, translational and transdisciplinary approach to smoking cessation services and research. Grounded by the US PHS Clinical Practice Guideline for Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence, the LA-TCI employs the approach at the recommended system, clinic, and patient levels of healthcare. Our goal is to reduce the burden of tobacco use in state health care systems and community health centers by 1) identifying all tobacco users at partner sites; 2) identifying appropriate and acceptable evidence-based interventions for tobacco users; 3) cost effectively providing those interventions to tobacco users, when possible; 4) continuously evaluating the initiative for quality improvement; and 5) conducting research to improve population health outcomes.
