Job Description

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager supervises the accounting staff members, performs general

accounting functions, and provides operational administrative support for the client base

of Innovative Strategic Partners to ensure the accurate and timely completion of

accounting tasks, financial reporting, and compliance with relevant regulations and

policies. The company’s client base is largely comprised of nonprofit organizations.


Role and Responsibilities

Team Leadership

· Supervise, train, and mentor a team of accountants and other financial specialists,

ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to perform their duties

effectively

· Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, set performance objectives, and

conduct regular performance evaluations

· Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork,

professional development, and continuous improvement

Financial Reporting and Analysis

· Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring compliance

with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or relevant accounting

standards

· Prepare and maintain allocation accounting for grant and program reporting for

nonprofit clients

· Provide cash flow forecasting analyses for clients

· Review and analyze financial data, identifying trends, anomalies, and potential

issues

· Provide timely and accurate financial reports to clients 

General Accounting Operations 

· Ensure the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, fixed assets, investments and payroll 

· Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and resolving any discrepancies 

· Oversee vendor payments processes to ensure efficient operations


Budgeting and Forecasting

 · Assist in the development and monitoring of client annual budgets and grant budgets, working closely with each client’s senior management

 · Collaborate with client department heads, as needed, to gather financial data, analyze variances, and provide insights on budget performance

 · Contribute to the forecasting process by providing financial projections, identifying risks and opportunities, and recommending actions to achieve financial goals

 Audit and Compliance

 · Coordinate and support external audits, ensuring timely and accurate provision of information and resolution of auditor requirements Interactions with 

Client Leadership

 · Lead routine communications with client leadership on accounting matters including presentation of monthly financial statements, inquiries on transaction details and supporting documentation, and creating a culture of responsiveness to client requests


Education and Qualifications 

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification highly desirable · Five (5) years of relevant experience in accounting, with increasing levels of responsibility; experience within a CPA firm and/or experience with nonprofit accounting preferred · At least two (2) years of proven experience supervising/leading project-based teams · Strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or relevant accounting standards · Solid understanding of internal controls and financial risk management · Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis techniques

· Expert knowledge with Intuit QuickBooks Online; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite · Must be able to operate self-reliantly and independently as an effective tactical, results-oriented, and strategic thinker · Strong knowledge of financial analytical software tools that support financial reporting · Excellent customer service skills · Highly organized, with proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines · Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced and fluid environment
