The University of New Orleans, an NCAA Division I institution located in New Orleans, Louisiana is seeking an Assistant Coach and Operations Director for Women’s Basketball.

Job Summary

The Women's Basketball Assistant Coach and Operations Director reports directly to the Women’s Basketball Head Coach and provides coaching assistance and support to all aspects of the program.

 

Responsibilities

 

Coaching (55%)

  • Assist fellow Women’s Basketball coaches with on court coaching, including practices, workouts and games. 
  • Work with assigned position group as directed by Head Coach, Women’s Basketball

 

Administrative Support (10%)

  • Coordinates student-athlete housing in conjunction with athletics administration. 
  • Serves as the program’s liaison to athletics administration regarding marketing and publicity. 
  • Works with athletics administration to coordinate academic support as needed. 
  • Facilitates community outreach with athletics administration. 

 

Team Travel (10%)

  • Coordinate travel for coaches, student-athletes, staff, and administration to and from games, including ground transportation, airfare, transfers, lodging and meals.
  • Coordinate with host institution regarding facility access, practice times and more.    
  • Work closely with the university’s department of finance and administration and Athletic business office to provide timely documentation and accounting. 

 

Basketball Scouting (5%)

  • Scout future opponents, including both in-person scouting and via digital sources. 
  • Prepare scouting reports on upcoming opponents and communicate findings to fellow coaches and student-athletes. 

 

Recruiting Support (5%)

  • Assist with all aspects of recruiting operations, to include travel for both outbound members of the staff as well as inbound recruits and their families. 
  • Assist fellow coaches in the identification of prospective student-athletes, including high school players, junior college players and those student-athletes in the transfer portal. 
  • Work closely with the university’s department of finance and administration and Athletic business office to provide timely documentation and accounting. 

 

Lakefront Arena / Gameday Operations (5%)

  • Secures team pre-game and/or post-game meals. 
  • Serve as the liaison with opponents for scheduling of practices and other access to Lakefront Arena.  Fulfills any contractual obligations to visiting teams. 
  • Coordinate women’s basketball team needs with Lakefront Arena staff. 

 

Camp Coordinator (5%)

  • Coordinates women’s basketball camp operations.
  • Markets and promotes women’s basketball camps. 
  • Ensures proper staffing and safety protocols for all women’s basketball camps. 

 

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Women’s Basketball Head Coach and Vice President, Athletics & Recreation. 

 

The employee shall at all times conduct themselves in an ethical manner in association with the standards set forth by NCAA and Southland Conference Bylaws and University policies and procedures.

 

Required Qualifications       

•      Bachelor's degree.

•      Two or more years’ experience in college or professional basketball as a player, coach or administrator.

•      Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA compliance policies and procedures.

•      Proven ability to develop, establish and sustain relationships with student-athletes, coaches, administration and various constituents.

•      Excellent administrative, organizational and proven ability to recruit prospective student-athletes.

•      Ability to work nights, weekends and travel as needed.

 

Desired Qualifications

•      ​Master's degree.

•     Experience as an NCAA women’s basketball student-athlete, coach or administrator.

•     Excellent organizational and time management skills.

•     Firm understanding of current technology and ability to use technology to advance the program.
