Job Description

The role involves counseling and advising students on various aspects of financial aid, including eligibility, application procedures, available programs, costs, and indebtedness. The incumbent will tailor information to meet the specific needs and situations of each student. Keeping abreast of the latest developments, the position requires up-to-date knowledge of all federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs. Additionally, the role involves reviewing aid applications to ensure accuracy and determining eligibility and financial need.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain detailed records and documentation on individual student applicants including reviewing needs analysis reports, compute individual budgets, verify reasonable students and family contributions, determine students’ needs and design aid packages to meets students’ needs
  • Counsel and advise current students, prospective students and their parents on the application process of financial aid. This process includes determining individual aid eligibility for various grants, loans, and work programs by using numerous systems to collect the data
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations as they pertain to student financial assistance by reviewing publications and various resources
  • Advise and consult with internal departments on a variety of matters including problem resolution, financial aid eligibility
  • Assist the Director in conducting entrance and exit counseling sessions and other presentations
  • Oversee and coach clerical staff
  • Communicate and consult with external government agencies on student eligibility, loan matters and financial responsibility.



    Minimum Qualifications

    • Required Education: Bachelor's
    • One year of professional level experience in a student financial aid office or related field is required. 
    • 4 years’ experience in education, higher education, accounting, counseling or related fields may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Proficiency utilizing student administrative software systems, with a strong preference for prior experience with the current LSUSHC enterprise software system”. Prior experience working with health sciences and/or graduate/professional students.
