Job Description
STEM Library Lab is hiring an EdOpportunities Program Manager. This position is in charge of running the day-to-day management of the EdOpportunities.org platform, a virtual platform that compiles local education “Opportunities” provided by local nonprofits and other stakeholders.
Full time, 40 hrs/week.
Anticipated salary, $50,000
About STEM Library Lab:
Founded in 2016, STEM Library Lab (SLL) began as a nonprofit equipment lending library that fosters high-quality active learning by providing teachers with access to equipment, programs, experiences, and STEM instructional support to drive student success. Since founding, we have grown and expanded our programs to include a Teacher Free-Store, Professional Development sessions, Service Learning and more. Since inception, we have worked with over 1,400 teachers across more than 100 local schools.
Serving with STEM Library Lab will give you an opportunity to be a part of a small, passionate team that values open communication, new ideas, and the ambitious pursuit of educational equity. Since this will be our fifth full year of operations, you will learn how to launch and grow a nonprofit and have a direct impact on how we develop. Together, we can make sure students in every classroom have exposure to quality educational experiences that prepare them for a 21st Century future.
Position Summary:
The EdOpportunities Program Manager will oversee the build out, implementation, and growth of the EdOpportunities Database and related programming. The database is a comprehensive listing of Opportunities available to educators, such as: extra-curricular offerings, professional developments, classroom grants, field trips, volunteer support, events, and more. Teachers can search these Opportunities and be able to benefit from the array of resources currently underutilized in the community.
The role of the EdOpportunities Program Manager (EPM) will be versatile, including meeting with stakeholders across the education ecosystem to grow the quantity and quality of Opportunities provided in the database, meeting with school stakeholders to outreach how their staff can take advantage of these Opportunities, and stationary tasks involved in maintenance and upkeep of the online portal.
The EPM is a self-directed position, in which the correct candidate will be responsible for setting their own schedule in order to meet goals set by themselves and the Executive Director. This position will need to be deeply familiar with the operations and needs of schools as well as the needs and operations of nonprofits in the education ecosystem.
Primary metrics of success:
- Number of partner organizations actively engaging with the platform
- Number and utilization rate of teachers and community members actively engaging with the platform
Essential Functions of Position:
1) Oversee the EdOpportunities Database
a) Coordinating buildout of the database to reflect the needs of local teachers and the offerings of local stakeholder entities
b) Monitoring usage frequency of member teachers to guide outreach for partners with low utilization rates.
c) Working collaboratively with SLL team members and partners to ensure that teachers are aware of how to engage with the database and partner sites
2) Community Partner Outreach
a. Leading on-site and virtual orientations, and training new partners in how to access the available resources
b. Visiting partner sites to sign up new members and assist them in uploading Opportunities, as well as assure that current Opportunities accurately reflect partner site activities
c. Representing SLL at events and promotional activities and traveling with the Executive Director to engage new potential partners as needed.
d. Support other SLL teammates in occasional fulfillment of additional duties
3) Thought Leadership
a. Working with the Executive Director to plan and implement a strategy for how to grow the EdOpportunities.org Database to additional geographic areas beyond greater New Orleans
Qualifications- Who We’re Looking For:
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the local landscape of GNO schools and the nonprofits/agencies that work with and support schools. While the EdOpportunities Database is free, this is in many ways a sales position, bringing new users and partners into collaboration with our work. They will have strong written and verbal communication skills as a major component of this position is connecting with people.
The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and able to self manage including setting schedules, priorities, and workflows. They will also fundamentally believe in the value of educational equity and bringing high quality programming into schools and communities that have been traditionally underserved in terms of resource access.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Strong passion for STEM Library Lab’s educational equity mission; SLL is an Equal Opportunity Employer and diverse candidates are encouraged to apply;
● Ability to work with diverse sets of educators and community stakeholders;
● Desire to work in a small, startup environment that will require self-motivation and flexibility;
● Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to maintain effective and professional work relationships;
● Attention to detail is a must for this position. Strong management and organizational skills, in particular time management and multitasking;
● Driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation access is required
Required Academic and Experience Qualifications:
● 2+ years’ experience in an education nonprofit setting is preferred
● Experience managing an online database
● Knowledge of the local education landscape
● Website design experience is preferred
