Job Description

K9 Second Line is looking for pet enthusiasts with availability to complete dog-walking and pet-sitting appointments on the east banks of Jefferson and Orleans Parishes. This position is ideal for both students and professionals with a flexible or incomplete schedule looking for an enjoyable activity to earn some extra money.

Prior pet care experience, knowledge of the area, and social media savvy are all pluses for this position.

Work hours are completely flexible - you tell us when you are available and we will do our best to fill your schedule with however much you want to work.

Our most common service is a 30-minute dog-walk, but we also pet sitting appointments in clients' homes for dogs, cats, and occasionally chickens, fish, reptiles, and even plants.

We are considering applicants for immediate hire. The sooner applicants apply, the more likely they will be considered for hire.

Apply to Jonathan through this portal and include a resume, work history, or link to a professional profile. No cover letters are necessary, but a couple of sentences introducing yourself is always nice! Positions will be filled as applications are submitted and reviewed; waiting until the deadline date could result in missing out on the hiring process.

Compensation:

  • $14.50 per hour for appointments during training, increased to $15.00 after the first month. 1.25x hours for nights and weekend appointments. 1.5x hours for holiday appointments. Hours include drive time. Compensation increases based on performance.
  • Tips (variable, but usually higher for night and weekend appointments).

Applicant Responsibilities:

  • Read training guides, follow written instructions, and independently complete pet appointments (typically 30-minutes in length).
  • Be fully alert while handling dogs weighing as much as 100 pounds to keep them from agitating or dangerous situations.
  • Walk long periods of time in excessive heat or light rain, while monitoring personal and pet safety.
  • Communicate with team members and clients in a detailed and thoughtful manner.
  • Use your initiative and problem-solving skills to deliver the best service possible to pets and their parents.

Non-Negotiables:

  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and be able to travel throughout our service area (we will do our best to give you appointments closer to where you live).
  • Must be able to pass a federal background check.
  • Must have a smart phone and data plan.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
