Job Description

Community Works is Hiring Early Childhood Education Teachers!


Community Works offers arts enrichment classes for children as young as 4 years old in our afterschool programs. We strive to provide engaging enrichment classes to all students in a structured and supportive environment and are currently looking for educators eager to work with this age group!

Community Works Programming

CW Programs include Enrichment time for students from prek-8th covering a variety of disciplines including dance, art, music, recreation, meditation, stem/steam, chess, creative writing, theater and more. All Enrichment classes are created by instructors and incorporate Academic Louisiana Student Standards. CW makes it a priority to meet students where they are at by creating genuine connections through classes that are relatable to students.


CW Offers a variety of programming options including, but not limited to: day time enrichment within the schools, afterschool enrichment time and tutoring/Homework assistance.


Program Locations vary but may include: New Orleans, New Orleans East, Westbank, Metairie/Kenner.


Position Description

  • This position is contract work (1099 taxes)
  • Pay rate starts at $28/hour for planning and professional developments and go up from there depending on program and position.
  • Pay day is at the end of each month either via direct deposit or check.
  • Program staff will be expected to comply with all covid procedures in place by CW + partner schools.
  • CW will organize/lead professional developments for instructors to attend including: racial equity, curriculum planning, youth engagement, inclusion, and more


Class Responsibilities

  • To assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing a safe, fun and educational experience for students
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials and skills
  • Modifying instructional strategies based on recommendations and evaluations
  • Facilitating social interactions between the child and other children in the classroom.
  • Providing escorts and assistance to students as needed
  • Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials and facilities
  • Performs assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, and on field trips
  • Assists students with physical needs (toileting, eating, dressing, etc.)


Other Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicating with CW Admin, Community Leaders, teachers and/or families regarding student performance and plans for improvement
  • Collaborating with team members to provide feedback and data related to student’s progress.
  • Participating in team meetings and professional development workshops
  • Producing performance-based activities to support school initiatives
  • Facilitating student inclusion in class or school programs, or other special events
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community.


Qualifications

  • Previous youth work experience in some capacity is required
  • Formal teaching/para experience is preferred but not required
  • Certification in special education or Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) training is preferred but not required
  • Background checks will be processed by CW. Background check findings will not automatically disqualify you from the hiring process.
  • Reliable form of transportation is required
