About Hostelling International USA (HI USA)
Hostelling International USA (HI USA) is a nonprofit, member organization founded on an enduring belief in the power of travel to foster a deeper understanding of people, places, and the world around. HI USA promotes a dynamic community of global citizens who have the wisdom and humanity to actively make the world a better place. As the nation’s leading hostel brand, HI USA hosts more than 1 million overnights annually, with guests from more than 100 countries. For over 80 years, HI USA has provided a network of affordable hostels in converted mansions, reinvented lighthouses, and historic urban buildings all across the country.
Our more than 50 hostels nationwide facilitate interaction among people from diverse backgrounds, from across the country and around the world. As our community of travelers gets to know each other, they are discovering their similarities and their differences, expanding their world views as they build friendships.
In addition to getting to know their fellow travelers, we also strive for guests to connect with the local community and to inspire the local community to experience the transformative power of travel. This symbiotic relationship is especially important for breaking down stereotypes. By thinking beyond typical guidebook recommendations, our hostellers are able to see the place they’re visiting through the eyes of locals. It becomes more about gaining a deeper insight of what life is like in the area, as opposed to checking off a list of typical tourist attractions.
HI USA is part of Hostelling International (HI), a collection of more than 4,000 hostels worldwide, whose roots stretch back to the beginning of the hostelling movement more than 100 years ago. The HI brand is a seal of approval recognized around the world.
