Duties and Responsibilities:
The Dean of Nursing serves as the administrative head of the Nursing Division and is
responsible for directing the development of the academic programs and curricula that meet the
expressed needs of healthcare partners. Promotes an environment of creativity and innovation, ensuring the alignment of academic priorities and initiatives with student services across the college. Responsible for seeking innovative ways to increase student enrollment, as well as implementing best practices that increase minority enrollment and academics success. Leads the efforts in developing and furthering partnerships with area healthcare institutions. Works collaboratively with faculty and healthcare agencies to continue the legacy of the renowned Charity school of nursing.
40% Collaborates and delegates (when appropriate) with faculty and administrative staff to ensure effective and efficient operation of all aspects of the Nursing Division, including the CNA, LPN and RN programs. Supervises faculty and administrative staff in accordance with the organizational chart. Prepares, recommends and administers the budget in collaboration with the administration of the college and staff of the School of Nursing. Prepares and submits reports as required. Maintains an effective communication network among Division faculty and staff, health care agency personnel, and other institutions and organizations with which the college is associated. Establishes and maintains functional relationships between the Nursing Division, other divisions and departments in the college, and the community.
20% Oversees a system of maintaining records pertaining to the Division. Ensures that the educational programs in Nursing fulfill the College's mission, the school's philosophy, and learning outcomes. Collaborates with the faculty of each program to develop, implement and evaluate the curriculum. Interprets policies and procedures of the College as they relate to the Nursing division. Represents the College in the community and across the state and serves as liaison between the College and the community. Develops collaborative relationships with business and industry with an understanding of the linkage between the College and business/industry. Ensures nursing programs maintain approval/accreditation status.
15% Ensures that the rules and regulations of healthcare agencies are adhered to. Monitors confidential records regarding drug testing, background verification and individual consent orders for students from the Boards of Nursing. Provides for a system of support services to fulfill the objectives of the Division of Nursing.
15% Schedules regular meetings in accordance with the By-laws of the School of Nursing Faculty Association. Serves as chair of the Faculty Association. Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees of the Faculty Association. Serves as an active member of committees of the Faculty Association as the need arises. Serves as a member of the College committees and councils as appointed. Ensures that the Division of Nursing is represented on College committees by faculty, staff and students. Represents the Division of Nursing at various functions in the community, including meetings, seminars, and conferences.
10% Assists in the interpretation and implementation of the College's policies, procedures and regulations. Performs assigned duties to assure smooth operation of the Division.
Required Education: Master's degree in nursing or approved equivalent from institutions accredited by a regional accreditation association recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Required Experience: Three years administrative experience in nursing education or institutional management and three years of clinical experience.
Must have a record of effective administrative and fiscal management in a higher education setting.
Must have a demonstrated commitment to creating an environment that is supportive of students, staff, and faculty, including a proven track record of valuing and supporting diversity.
Experience in academic program development, implementation, and evaluation in nursing education.
Dynamic leadership, planning, and communication skills.
Required Licenses or Certifications: Current unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Louisiana
Preferred Education: Doctorate in nursing, nursing education, or related field
Preferred Experience: At least five years administrative experience in nursing education
Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
