About Haiti Mama

Founded in 2014, Haiti Mama is dedicated to reuniting children in orphanages with their families through a research-based community social work model. We work in collaboration with the Haitian Government, utilizing Haitian social workers to provide culturally competent family services. Our mission is to empower two generations of each family through education, employment, and access to social work, with the ultimate goal of breaking the cycle of poverty. Additionally, we operate a home for children with disabilities, offering them housing, care, therapies, and support to lead fulfilling lives in Haiti.

What you will be doing:

Haiti Mama is seeking an Executive Director who will play a pivotal role in ensuring the organization's long-term sustainability through financial health. This position will be responsible for overseeing various aspects of our non-profit organization, including managing our subscription box, The Mama Box, which is a critical source of funding for our programs. Success in this role will be measured by achieving significant growth in The Mama Box subscriptions, with a target of over 9,500 subscriptions shipped annually by the end of 2027.

The Executive Director will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Fundraising and Donor Relations: Collaborate on fundraising activities, donor sourcing, and engage with donors, media, government representatives, and community members.
  • Marketing and Awareness: Build and oversee marketing campaigns, including social media, to raise awareness, attract potential donors, volunteers, and promote goods produced by Haiti Mama vendors.
  • Vendor Selection: Select and monitor approved vendors for Haiti Mama retail operations.
  • Financial Management: Prepare and manage the annual budget, monitor all financial transactions, including bookkeeping, expenditures, and cash flow in line with approved budgets.
  • Team Management: Recruit, train, and manage staff, support their development, and oversee their goals and outcomes. Also, recruit, coordinate, train, and monitor volunteers.
  • Security: Collaborate to ensure the physical security of in-country staff, volunteers, facilities, and residences by monitoring local social activity and adjusting security protocols as necessary.
  • US-Based Program Management: Monitor fashion and home decor trends and assist in sourcing materials to support job creation by our artisans for our online Boutique.
  • Compliance: Manage annual tax filing to maintain the organization's good standing.
  • Communication: Monitor and respond to organization emails, manage CRM software accurately, and oversee website and social media management.
  • Community Engagement: Write and send out regular communications/blog posts to the community with updates and reflections on programs and activities in Haiti.
  • Collaboration: Maintain open and supportive relationships with the in-country Haitian Management team, collaborators, influencers, and curators for The Mama Box.
  • Reporting: Collaborate with the founders of The Fountain project and provide quarterly business updates on the success of The Mama Box.
  • Board Engagement: Maintain an open and supportive relationship with the board while identifying gaps and needs among its members.

What you’ll bring:

  • Non-profit Experience: 5+ years of involvement in non-profit organizations, including the development of actionable fundraising plans and donor sourcing strategies.
  • Financial Acumen: A working knowledge of financial records, including cash flow, budgets, balance statements, and income statements. Understanding of audits, tax returns, and compliance is required.
  • Marketing Skills: Experience using social media as a marketing tool to target donor audiences and generate revenue from locally produced retail goods.
  • Language Skills: Strong communication skills, with fluency in both French and English required. Fluency in Haitian Creole would be considered an asset.
