But they will include 1) collecting, managing, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, 2) developing and leading manuscripts, engaging academic, policy and practice partners, 3) contributing to new grant development, and 4) mentoring junior scientists. In addition to TCI projects, the fellow will engage with state agencies, health systems and clinics, community-based organizations, and academic partners within and outside LSU Health New Orleans. The post-doc will receive outstanding mentorship from expert faculty in multiple research programs and support for further training and professional development.
Qualifications: Minimum education: Ph.D.; Minimum years of experience: 2-3. The applicant must have a doctoral degree in medical or public health-related fields.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to someone who can commit to at least 2-years. Expected start date: Fall/Winter 2023. Applications received by 11/01/2023 will receive priority consideration. However, we will continue to accept applications until we make a decision.
Note: The candidate’s doctoral degree must be in hand by the start date, with the exact start date negotiable.
Additional Position Information: Priority is for applicants with: a) documented evidence of research and scholarship (e.g., publications, presentations, grant submissions) in cancer prevention, nicotine dependence and tobacco use cessation, behavioral and community-based intervention development, health services research, and/or implementation science, b) excellent scientific communication abilities to produce verbal and written communications appropriate for a range of audiences (e.g., academic, treatment/prevention providers, government partners), and c) interpersonal skills that foster collaboration. Skills and/or passion to learn in the following areas are desired: qualitative interviewing and analysis, mixed methods approaches, and implementation science.
About the School: The LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health Tobacco Control Initiative (TCI) is recruiting a full‐time Post‐Doctoral Fellow. The person filling this position will have recently completed or expects to soon complete doctoral studies (e.g., PhD, ScD, DrPH, EdD) with a background in tobacco use/addiction, health services research, behavioral intervention research, implementation science, cancer disparities, or related areas.
The post‐doctoral fellow will work on projects under the direction of Dr. Michael Celestin (https://sph.lsuhsc.edu/people/faculty/faculty-list/celestin-michael/), Assistant Professor of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences, and his transdisciplinary team. Dr. Celestin is the Director of the TCI, serves as the Clinical Lead for Tobacco Control and Health Systems Change for the Louisiana Health Care Services Division, is Committee Chair for the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) Strategic Planning Cessation Workgroup, and a member of the LDH Office of Behavioral Health Academy Health Systems Change Workgroup. These and other positions support the identification, collection, management, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of data related to cancer prevention, tobacco use and cessation, and eliminating tobacco-caused health disparities in Louisiana.
The TCI’s vision is to position itself as a national leader in creating and applying knowledge through health services and behavioral intervention research benefiting Louisianans. Its mission is to conduct research and provide care for the most medically vulnerable residents, including low-income, under- and uninsured, less educated, and minority populations. The TCI receives funding from the Louisiana Cancer Research Center, which seeks to promote education and conduct research in diagnosing, detecting, and treating cancer while pursuing a National Cancer Institute designation.
Location: The position will be located within the LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health (SPH). LSU Health New Orleans has teaching, research, and healthcare functions state-wide through its six professional schools, eight Centers of Excellence, and more than one hundred hospitals and other health science-related institutions throughout the State, Region, Nation, and the World. The campus is located in the medical district of New Orleans. The SPH offers MPH degrees within five concentrations and doctorates in three concentrations. SPH faculty maintain cutting-edge extramural research and service programs reflecting extensive associations with national, state, and regional health agencies. The campus location allows for convenient travel via car to other major areas in the city and other cities in the Southeast.
Interested applicants should submit a 1) cover letter, 2) curriculum vitae, 3) sample publications, and 4) names and contact information for 3-references.
