Job Description
The Mission of Homer Plessy Community School is to develop students who think critically and act responsibly as citizens. We do this by utilizing an arts-integrated, project-based curriculum to provide a stimulating environment that insists on academic excellence in a developmentally appropriate setting. We envision a joyful environment with creative, compassionate, and purposeful students. We will serve PK - 8th grade in the coming school year.
Homer Plessy Community School is seeking highly-qualified, progressive, creative, and dynamic Middle School Teachers for the 2024-25 school year. Ideal candidates have a commitment to progressive education, arts-integration, project-based learning, emergent and responsive curriculum, teacher leadership, and strong respectful relationships with students and adults.
Primary responsibilities include:
Implementing and fostering a joyful classroom environment and encouraging all learners in a child-centered approach.
Creating and implementing authentic Arts-Integrated instruction and Project-Based Learning practices in an academically rigorous setting.
Teaching the whole child, including social/emotional learning, with a focus on logical and restorative approaches to problem solving.
Providing thoughtful differentiated instruction to each student.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with parents and families through open, consistent, and positive communication.
Creating and/or maintaining appropriate records and assessments.
Developing and implementing appropriate intervention strategies in collaboration with student support staff.
Maintaining professional competence through participation in professional development opportunities.
Consistently collaborating with team members.
Participating in school-sponsored community events.
Leading classroom assistants, student teachers, and/or volunteers in addressing the needs of students.
Homer Plessy Community School MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Education or related field.
Experience in a classroom setting.
Certification in area of instruction.
Commitment to progressive education practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a lead teacher.
Background in the Arts.
Diverse life and work experiences.
Demonstrated success working in urban settings.
