Job Description
The part-time Executive Editor position at Where Y’at Magazine
Will be responsible for editing and posting all content for monthly issues, along with daily website posts. Job is a long-term contract position (1099 only) at 12.25 hours weekly, although more hours will likely be required. Job is primarily remote, with some minimal office time necessary.
Start Date: Immediate / Oct. 1, 2023
Duties include:
· Copy editing and proofreading, along with some substantive editing/revising of all content, both for website and print issues
· Managing a team of interns and writers
· Tracking writers and photographers requests for concert/event coverage
· Distributing assignments to interns and assisting with assignments to contributing writers
· Creating and/or monitoring weekend Facebook posts
· Working closely with Creative Director regarding editorial content, photos, interns, and other issues
· Editing and posting nearly all of our company’s diverse website content using our in-house content management system.
· Writing original content, where applicable
· Other duties, where necessary
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree
· Excellent writing, proofreading, and grammar skills
· Must have experience writing and editing material for publication on web and in print
· Some CMS experience
· Extreme attention to detail
· Familiarity with Google docs, sheets, etc.
· Social media experience
· Good people skills
· The ideal candidate will be a clever wordsmith who can whip out a catchy headline and turn sub-par writing into stellar prose
· Must be a fan and advocate of the Oxford comma
· Background or experience in journalism, communications, professional writing, or related field highly preferred
