Kind of Work

The purpose of this position is to accurately read and record current numbers into the ITRON FS as shown on water meter registers on residential and commercial meters. The employee reports visible repairs needed on the meter or its box; including broken glass, missing or damaged covers, and any other obvious damage. The employee must indicate those registers which are unreadable and state the reason why (flooded or buried meter box, damaged registers, a bad lock, etc.).  This position includes stooping, walking and use of common tools. Some positions may be trained to work in the trouble shooting section. All Water Service Inspector I's are required to read a minimum of 300 meters a day with a maximum allowable limit of misread meter to be 1 percent of daily readings. The employee will be trained to operate the hand held ITRON.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Must be at least 18 years of age with the ability to follow simple written and verbal instructions and the ability to work outside in various weather conditions, including rain and high temperatures.
