Job Description

The Housekeeping Lead assumes the responsibility of Quality Inspections, training, documentation and accountability of facility, as it relates to the proper cleaning of all hostel grounds. Position requires desire and flexibility to step in to cover shifts including afternoon and evenings. 

Pay range is $13.60-$15.00 / Hour

Responsibilities:

  • Clean common spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, rooms and other tasks as the business needs. Includes, but is not limited to cleaning walls, floors, mirrors, toilets, beds, fixtures, stairs and windows; dusting paintings, window sills, furniture, counters, sinks and door frames; vacuum, mop, and buff floors.
  • The ability to make beds, including bunk beds which involves climbing, reaching, stretching and balance.
  • Process linens (washing, drying, folding, collecting and retrieving) in laundry operation as trained
  • Empty trash and clean staff accessible operations offices on a daily basis. 
  • Clean common restrooms, hallways, ceilings, vents, all aspects and areas of kitchens, lounges, public spaces, storage rooms etc  as assigned or directed.
  • Follow property Standards and Procedures for cleaning and sanitation.
  • Maintain proper linen pars, chemicals, and amenity inventories. Conducts inventories as assigned and recommend purchases of products, remaining within budget.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly housekeeping inventories on a timely basis.
  • Ensure guest privacy and security.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor as well as ,GM and AGM, promptly and fully informed of all day to day activities, needs, maintenance issues problems or matters of significance.
  • Conducts and participates with a positive, can do, attitude, department trainings, and training of staff,  on a daily basis in conjunction with OSHA, trained cleaning and sanitation standards, including cleaning techniques and safe use of cleaning products.
  • Be aware of and help maintain hostel MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for cleaning chemicals.
  • Check all HVAC units in the building, dust regularly, including high vents and alert Maintenance of any problems.  Report any maintenance issues in the building, rooms, common areas and kitchen.  Ability to use a computer to input data into Maintenance and Housekeeping data bases and programs. 
  • Other duties or projects as needed, or assigned by management.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and minimum 2 years of housekeeping experience, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Customer service and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish preferred.
  • Minimum six months of hostel or hotel experience preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, balance and use hands and arms.  The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear.  The employee is required to climb or balance as this is an essential aspect of cleaning and changing linens on bunk beds and other duties in the hostel.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
