Job Description

For almost 90 years, the staff and management of Magnolia Community Services have provided care, support, and services to clients with developmental disabilities in the Greater New Orleans area.

Reporting to the Director of Operations (DOO), the Accounting Manager will lead all day-to-day accounting operations and supervise a team of accounting staff members. This role will have functional responsibility for accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grants administration. The Accounting Manager will assist the Executive Director (ED), senior leadership, human resources (HR), programs, and other resources to educate them regarding procedures applicable to their area, explore how the accounting function can support program and department operations, and ensure a clear understanding of accounting-related activities. The Accounting Manager will serve as the main point of contact for audit purposes with guidance from the DOO.

Job Functions:

  • Ensure compliance with Medicare and Medicaid guidelines, general GAAP principles, and standards applicable to not-for-profits.
  • Create and present comprehensive financial reports.
  • Assess opportunities and make recommendations to improve service, work processes, and financial performance.
  • Make recommendations to leadership for the financial strategies of the organization.
  • Collaborate to assess the financial efficacy of program operations.
  • Resolve accounting system(s) issues timely and ensure prompt resolution.
  • Assist the DOO in performing an annual analysis of benefit plans.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems.
  • Oversee internal audits and serve as the primary point of contact for external audits.
  • Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process.
  • Perform the duties of accounting staff members when needed.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
  • Supervise the management of all client accounts.
  • Support and promote the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Other duties as assigned.
