What We Do                                                                           

We're building a workforce to fill the skills gap in New Orleans and beyond. We train adult and high school learners to become craftsmen and future industry leaders. Our staff has over 40 years of combined industry experience. We offer training for high school and adult students. For high school students, NOTEP partners with the Louisiana Department of Education to offer students’ academic credit, in addition to earning industry approved credentials. For students that complete the program, NOTEP has a robust Next-Steps initiative to helps interested students obtain work in the industry or apply to post-secondary institutions to further their education.

Position Summary

The carpentry instructor will teach residential and, if possible, commercial carpentry to high school and adult students. In addition to carpentry curriculum, instructors also teach soft-skills and work-readiness modules. In addition to field experience, candidates should have volunteer or professional experience working with students or entry-level employees in an urban setting. While instructor’s primary role is to teach, they also assist with connecting trainees to employment and organizational initiatives.

 

Duties and Expectations

·        Administer entry level and, if possible, advanced carpentry training

·        Teach soft-skill and work-readiness curriculum

·        Use technology as required for communication, data entry, and course planning

·        Communicate professionally and courteously with staff, trainees, and partners

·        Meet weekly deliverable deadlines that typically include grade and attendance entry and lesson plans

·        Meet semester deadlines that typically include course planning documents and credential and grade reporting

·        Exhibit great patience when working with younger trainees as they and we work through behavior and life challenges

·        Spend 20 – 25 hours per week in the classroom

·        Pass teaching certification examinations in order to receive certification within the first two years

Required Skills, Experience, and Education

·        High School Diploma (Required)

·        3+ years of experience in Carpentry

·        Experience working or volunteering with young people in an urban environment

·        Must have basic computer skills to administer exams, enter grades and attendance, and use Google products (email, calendar, sheets, docs)

Work Hours:

·        Monday – Friday

·        8:30am – 4:30pm generally

o   some days vary and instructors can earn flexibility with planning times

o   37.5 - 42.5 hours per week

Compensation:

·        $45,000 - $60,000, 44 weeks per year (Includes 5 paid holidays)

o   Pay range depends on experience and course load

       ·        Full benefits including retirement and medical
