Job Description
CTE Coordinator
Mission
New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School is an open-admission public charter school that prepares all students for college admissions and successful careers. Sci High provides a rigorous high school curriculum with an emphasis in science and in a supportive environment of learning and respect that prepares students to make informed choices about post-secondary pursuits.
Position Overview
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Lead facilitates student achievement by providing academic leadership for CTE instruction and programming at Sci High. The Lead ensures the successful development and implementation of instructional initiatives in CTE, including the formation and maintenance of community partnerships.
Role-specific Duties:
As a member of the Academic Leadership Team, you are expected to:
Contribute to the coaching cycle:
Provide focused, regular instructional support to a cohort of teachers through a cycle of observation and debriefs.
Document the coaching cycle.
Participate in team and school-level planning based on the coaching cycle.
Align curricula:
Review and provide feedback on team members’ long term and unit planning documents.
Facilitate vertical and horizontal alignment among CTE course offerings and related STEM coursework.
Support efforts to coordinate instruction across the STEM, CTE, and Humanities teams.
Ensure students undertake the necessary courses and examinations to earn certifications.
Coordinate programming with the Academic Guidance Department as needed.
Manage a team:
Plan and convene weekly meetings of CTE faculty.
Identify and manage team leadership roles within the CTE team.
Support teachers:
Hold teachers accountable for reaching their goals and celebrate their successes.
Identify and develop professional development opportunities inside and outside of the school’s campus.
Implement academic initiatives:
Teach up to two courses.
Support academic initiatives identified within the CTE team.
Build and maintain relationships with community partners including funders and providers of programming.
Leadership Duties:
Admin Responsibilities: administrative support as assigned by Assistant Head of School
Professional Development: Participate in Leadership Team training, planning, and New Faculty Orientation in the summer. Leading team actions for summer curriculum development. Plan and facilitate relevant sessions for Faculty Development School Year Kickoff during designated team content development time and during staff development dates scheduled throughout the year.
Goal-Setting: Complete the Performance Map cycle semi-annually with each team member. Draft goals and action items with new and returning team members. Check-in periodically with team members regarding individual and team goals and objectives.
Leadership: Attend leadership planning and support meetings with other Academic Team leaders. Manage and coordinate team and support learning for all stakeholders.
Recruitment: Recruit and attract talented teachers and staff aligned to Sci High mission, academic vision, and team values. With the feedback of the recruitment team, make hiring decisions with the Assistant Head of School and the Head of School.
Mission Alignment: Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School and the Head of School to address school needs. Consistently communicate about Sci High’s unique history, mission, and current instructional initiatives. Support the Sci High community as a representative of school leadership and initiate decision making and problem-solving aligned with the school's mission and school goals. Support faculty and staff in effectively communicating and reinforcing the academic vision to all stakeholders, including students and families.
School-wide Duties:
Duty: Maintain vigilant duty posts as assigned and during transitions
Meetings: participate in faculty meetings: team meetings, professional development, Village Well
Daily Schedule: Arrive at least 30 minutes before the school day starts and remain at least 30 minutes after classes at the end of every day
Enforce Policies: Reinforce school-wide policies as outlined in the Student Handbook with all students
