City of New Orleans AmeriCorps VISTA Program - Office of Mayor LaToya Cantrell
Posted 06/30/22
1300 Perdido Street, New Orleans, LA 70112
Job Description
The City of New Orleans VISTA program is implemented by the Office of Mayor LaToya Cantrell and the Information Technology and Innovation Office (ITI). The City is seeking passionate individuals to build capacity to break the cycle of poverty and empower our community. New Orleans is a welcoming city with a unique culture, natural outdoor spaces, and a reputation for hospitable and friendly residents.
The Digital Equity program was designed with the mission to improve Digital Equity services in the community through enhancing current digital equity projects as well as launching new programs to sustain a broad spectrum of projects including basic skills trainings, professional development and educational collaborations.
Our work in the Digital Equity space will help break the cycle of poverty by reaching the underserved communities, those who would not otherwise have access to a device or services and begin to address the barriers to digital equity.
As a VISTA member in ITI, you will be exposed to technical and educational project management, as well as data collection and analysis. You will also get hands on experience working with the Information Technology team.
This exposure will provide an opportunity to work with multiple departments to help leverage a collective digital space for both the City of New Orleans employees as well as its residents. This rewarding opportunity will assist in closing the digital divide by providing resources to the city’s most vulnerable residents.
If you are interested in serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA, please note the following:
AmeriCorps is a national service year requiring 12 months of service, full time work hours (M-F, 9-5, in-person) and flexible hours on occasion.
Team members must either be fully vaccinated or present a negative test every week to work at City Hall.
For their national service, members receive a bi-weekly living allowance of $575, reduction of education costs, health insurance, and enriching career experience. Upon completion of service, members will also receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,345 or an end-of-service cash stipend of up to $1,800.

About City of New Orleans AmeriCorps VISTA Program - Office of Mayor LaToya Cantrell
The CNO AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program, led by the City of New Orleans Mayor's Office, is a federal grant program that tackles the nation's most pressing challenges by connecting individuals and organizations through service and volunteering. The program supports City Hall by expanding the ability of departments to fight poverty and provide better services to underserved and disproportionately impacted communities. The AmeriCorps VISTA projects further the City's mission of increasing job opportunities in New Orleans, as well as creating a culture of national service in our community.
CNO VISTA members serve at various departments to address critical city issues by engaging in capacity building work. Capacity building refers to tasks and activities that expand the scale, reach, efficiency, or effectiveness of programs and organizations. Member activities can include building the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of departments, program development and delivery, research and data evaluation, community engagement and outreach, and partnership expansion and development. VISTA members do not engage in direct service, like tutoring or building houses.
