Job Description
Director, Maritime Operations

Reporting to the General Manager of Maritime and Asset Management, the Director, Maritime Operations is responsible for supporting the Port’s maritime operations line of business including formulating and administering of the operational strategies for Port facilities servicing maritime operations tenants which include container cargo, breakbulk cargo, barge fleeting, marine services, and rail activities.
This position plans and directs the activities of staff to ensures that Port tariff requirements and marine terminal lease terms are enforced and that the maritime assets of the Port are inspected, maintained and restored; ensures effective liaison between the Port's maritime tenants and Port staff and teams; oversees the assignment of vessels to properties within the Port’s maritime facilities, effects proper billing for those accounts; and monitors and maintains the budget for area of responsibility; and coordinates with internal teams regarding dredging and capital projects. The essential duties of the Director, Maritime Operations include the following:
· Manage maritime facilities to include container cargo and breakbulk terminals, barge fleeting, and marine servicer facilities.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with current and potential tenants and Port staff.
· Work closely with Maintenance, Environmental, and Engineering Staff to ensure Port facilities are maintained to industry and lease standards; and coordinates facility maintenance repairs through regular meetings with port tenants, and Port maintenance and engineering to ensure safe and well-maintained facilities.
· Supervise, assign work and evaluate performance of staff.
· Maintain safe operations of Port maritime berths by users, and ensure compliance with the Port tariff, federal, state and local laws and regulations.
· Meet with and maintain regular contact with both current and prospective maritime tenants in order to receive feedback on Port facilities, processes, and operational best-practices.
· Support Engineering staff on projects as needed, and participate in planning of capital improvement projects related to maritime property, dredging, and the maintenance and modification of facilities.
· Manager of the Port’s tariff, including but not limited to its annual review and updating process.
· Provides operational guidance, recommendations, and broad oversight to grant fund applications, alongside Engineering and Development.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the various River Pilots groups, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection as well as operations personnel from Port tenants.
· Implement the day-to-day operations of the Maritime Operations Division and facilitate good working relationships between interdivisional Port employees.
· Maintains awareness of industry best practices in regards to operations and tech systems deployed in the maritime space, and serves as Port expert on such topics to give guidance and recommendations to Management from time to time as may be necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
· College degree
· Experience in the maritime industry and or transportation industry.
· Strong analytical skills and operational skills.
· Business acumen as it relates to understanding and anticipating customer needs
· Effective communication and presentation skills.
