Job Description

POSITION TITLE:  Community Development Finance Intern

MANAGER:  Project Manager                                                                                                                 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Community Development Finance Interns will assist with the compilation and submission of funding applications for affordable housing developments under the supervision of Project Managers and Project Analysts on GCHP’s development team. Through assisting with these applications, they will gain an overview of the affordable housing and community development fields over an intensive four-week program. At present there are two cycles available for internships:

April 18 through May 13

June 6 through July 1

Other cycles may become available as additional funding round opportunities are announced.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

                Education: This opportunity is intended for individuals in the process of completing an undergraduate degree, and who have an interest in community-oriented real estate development. Candidates who have completed a bachelor’s degree and have an interest in exploring this field will also be considered.

 

                Experience:

·         No prior full-time work experience required.

                Abilities:

·         Commitment to understand and advance the mission and values of GCHP.

·         Strong communication skills across a diverse range of audiences.

·         Excellent personal organizational skills, initiative, and the ability to advance work independently with appropriate supervision and direction.

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft suite.

·         Interns must possess a valid drivers’ license and dependable transportation.

·         Interest in community development finance.

·         Maturity necessary to perform consistently as part of a professional team

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Interns will work closely with the Project Analysts and Project Managers heading up each funding application. Under their direction, the interns will complete a range of tasks involved in compiling complete and responsive applications, including:

·         Review funding documents to understand the funding agency’s goals and how GCHP’s proposed projects align with them.

·         Review application checklists and track outstanding items to ensure that external deadlines can be met.

·         Communicate with external agencies to acquire third-party documents such as utility allowances, zoning confirmations and utility availability letters.

·         Develop an understanding of the financial and market challenges of completing affordable housing development projects and the role of seeking subsidy in making these developments viable.

·         Gain exposure to other elements of the real estate development process as time allows.

·         Some travel may be required

·         Perform other activities as requested by the Manager

Hours and Compensation:

·         Interns are expected to work at least 16 hours per week for the entirety of the cycle.


·         Interns will be compensated at $15 per hour.
