Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic storyteller to join our team and take our digital strategy to the next level. This intern will be immersed at our construction startup, sharing the stories of our team members, clients, and housing development projects across all platforms. But first, let us introduce ourselves:

WHO WE ARE: In a sentence, we design and build high quality, attainable, and sustainable homes.

SHIBUSA SYSTEMS LLC is revolutionizing housing construction by building homes of exceptional quality, faster and more affordably than ever before. Our unique approach combines patent-pending design innovations with best practices in site adaptation, materials procurement, logistics, and building, resulting in high-quality, sustainable, and naturally affordable housing.

OUR SOLUTION provides an end-to-end building solution for our clients— from design conception through to certificate of occupancy—at a fixed price below market cost.

By designing a universal Shibusa unit structure that is 100% repeatable and configurable, Shibusa eliminates the need for in-house architects or contractors. We expertly manage every step of development; Shibusa’s dependable assembly process reduces mistakes, stabilizes workflow reliability, and creates consistency in delivery and quality.

OUR MISSION is to improve social equity worldwide through significantly increasing the global supply of high-quality housing – allowing for greater wealth creation at lower income levels.

OUR NEED for a Marketing and Communications Intern has become more apparent as we continue to grow and scale; we need support sharing the stories of our team and of our projects. We are working on our largest project yet in the Lower Ninth Ward, and we will be unveiling several more concurrent construction projects this fall. We’re looking for an ambitious, mission-driven creative to help develop and execute a content creation strategy to showcase this progress.

WHO YOU ARE:
  • Someone who is passionate about sustainability, architecture, livable cities, and community building
  • Loves participating in social media, not just lurking
  • Curious about fostering new connections locally and across the home-building industry
  • A people-person, who can carry a conversation with just about anyone
  • Has an eye for detail and aesthetics
  • Mindful of data insights and performance metrics
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Begin the internship by developing a marketing plan with strategic goals; this will be a collaborative start with other team members providing input and helping with brainstorming
  • Craft the narrative of Shibusa's construction growth by capturing the day-to-day activity on our jobsites and in the office
  • Highlight the unique characteristics of our team members with exciting content creation
  • Come up with metrics for success and posting schedules to keep Shibusa relevant
  • Shape and drive strategy for promoting our product and culture across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Squarespace, and Twitter
  • Work with our community partners to reformat content, including time-lapse footage from construction sites and our non-profit partner lowernine.org
  • Assist with special projects as needed
  • A part time internship with an expectation of 15 working hours a week
  • $1,000 stipend for the semester (October 4 – December 17) in addition to any work-study requirements given from your educational institution (if applicable)
  • Mix of on-site / in-office work with remote work; some in-person work will be required to capture photos, videos, and testimonials. COVID protocols will be in accordance with CDC guidelines
  • Work under the Director of Business Development, who commits to supporting your personal goals and vision. Referrals to previous interns available upon request
  • Opportunities for career growth, portfolio building, mentorship, and professional development
  • Expect to make a positive impact with your work by showcasing our solution for affordable housing
  • A dynamic, reliable, and passionate team focused on delivering a high-quality product to our clients and residents
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with content creation and campaign strategy
  • Comfort with content creation platforms, such as Canva, Photoshop, or Illustrator
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Some video editing skills
  • Self-starter, able to dream up ideas and execute with limited supervision
  • Ability to synthesize data to understand content performance and make recommendations for improvements
  • Passion for team building and defining company culture
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:
  • A part time internship with an expectation of 15 working hours a week
  • $1,000 stipend for the semester (October 1 – December 15) in addition to any work-study requirements given from your educational institution (if applicable)
  • Mix of on-site / in-office work with remote work; some in-person work will be required to capture photos, videos, and testimonials. COVID protocols will be in accordance with CDC guidelines

  • Opportunities for career growth, portfolio building, mentorship, and professional development

  • A dynamic, reliable, and passionate team focused on delivering a high-quality product to our clients and residents
