Job Description
GNO, Inc., the regional economic development organization for Southeast Louisiana, is hiring a research intern to assist with the organization’s coastal research efforts.
Interested candidates are asked to apply on WorkNOLA by April 23 at 5:00 pm. Please submit a resume, one-page cover letter, and a sample of relevant past work.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Graduate Research Intern will work closely withGNO, Inc.’s Research Manager and other GNO, Inc. staff to:
- Identify areas of opportunity for research and development in Louisiana within the oceanography, maritime, and coastal sectors with an emphasis on salt water opportunities
- Research coastal restoration funding mechanisms, including, but not limited to Social Impact Bonds, to help identify best practices as it relates to financing projects related to Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan
- Conduct research for GNO, Inc.’s Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance to ensure that flood insurance continues to stay both affordable and sustainable
- Participate in regular check-in calls
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Interest and knowledge in Louisiana maritime sector and coastal activities, with an emphasis on salt water
- Accurate and thorough research capabilities with ability to develop clear and cogent briefs
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Proficient in MS Office suite, Internet research tools, and government databases
Education/Experience: The ideal intern will be a PhD student working toward a PhD in Environmental Sciences, Oceanography, Coastal Studies or a related field. Candidates pursing a Master’s degree with a strong background will be considered.
Compensation: This is a paid internship, competitive hourly wage or stipend.
Work Schedule: Internship may be remote, though intern is expected to interface with members of the GNO, Inc. staff during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm). Hours will be agreed upon between GNO, Inc. and the intern, taking into account their class schedule and any other employment commitments.
Timeline: Internship will begin when mutually agreed upon (around late Spring/early Summer 2021). All duties will end September 2021.
Supervision: The intern will report to GNO, Inc. Research Manager, Harrison Crabtree.
