Job Description
The Communications Manager is responsible for promoting New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council (NOCDC) through meaningful content that will advance the mission of the organization and bolster interest in international exchange.
The Communications Manager will craft and disseminate comprehensive and coordinated communications to external audiences through the organization’s website, social media, email marketing and newsletter, and events to raise the profile of NOCDC and the International Leadership Visitor Program (IVLP) in the New Orleans community. In partnership with the Executive Director and programming staff, this member of the NOCDC team will also ensure the success of NOCDC’s online and virtual programming, delivering a streamlined experience to attendees. The Communications Manager also will build the NOCDC reach and audience and attract new professional resources and members.
This new role at NOCDC is being created to uplevel our communications with key audiences by facilitating our transition to digital and online work. This includes but is not limited to our shift to a cloud based contact relationship management (CRM) system, revamp of our website, and development of new branding and communications tools.
Job Duties:
1. Utilize digital resources to promote and build brand awareness for NOCDC and the International Visitor Leadership program (plus any future fee for service or outside international exchanges that may arise), including but not limited to compiling and utilizing information, stories, photos, etc. about international visitors and/or professional resources.
2. Update NOCDC’s website (on the Wix platform) in order to facilitate dissemination of information about programs and events, purchase of tickets and/or memberships and donations, and pertinent information about the organization.
3. Develop a digital system to communicate with international visitors who will be participating with NOCDC about the details of their visit, program itinerary, and useful information about the city of New Orleans.
4. Oversee the content, layout, and distribution of a monthly newsletter and weekly or bi-weekly mailers (digital)
5. Work with an outside graphic designer to shape NOCDC’s branding and create templates and standards for future materials. Create/design promotional materials for NOCDC events including but not limited to invitations or flyers for events, informational brochures or graphics, and visual ads for online marketing purposes using Canva or other similar platform.
6. Serve as the primary point person on integrating NOCDC’s digital presence including overseeing the platform for virtual events (currently zoom). Attend virtual programs as needed to manage the technology or provide training to program staff as needed.
7. Develop and implement marketing strategies for NOCDC social media and maintain a robust social media presence on Facebook and Instagram with possible expansion to Twitter and LinkedIn, and other platforms aligned to key audiences.
8. Work with the Executive Director to implement and maintain a modern contact relationship management (CRM) system and website that reflects our overall organizational goals and incorporates our digital needs.
9. Develop and implement initiatives to package and deliver more substantive content outside of events to members and the community at large.
10. Assist Executive Director with communications and marketing to potential and existing members and donors, including but not limited to generating mailing lists and coordinating outside mailings
11. Initiate and direct external communication initiatives including community relations and outreach campaigns to maximize impact and reach.
Requirements
Requirements for this position include a bachelor’s degree in communications or marketing (may be substituted for two year’s related professional experience), experience managing social media channels including Facebook and Instagram, understanding of website and email communications best practices (coding not required), superlative interpersonal skills, professional experience with a CRM and WYSIWYG website design. Experience in non-profit fundraising or communications preferred. Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing work demands, as well as ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines. Ability to work on concurrent projects with minimal supervision.
This is a contract position for six months (January through June) with the opportunity for a six-month extension and potential to transition to a permanent position pending performance and funding.
