Job Description

Baptist Community Health Services Mission Statement:

Demonstrating the love of Christ by providing high quality medical and behavioral healthcare in under served communities.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Working with children and asking questions about their health for diagnosis and documenting patients' symptoms and medical history for the provider
  • Assessing a child's needs and providing initial care
  • Identifying changes in children's symptoms and intervening in emergency situations
  • Participating in pain management for children
  • Administering medications, drawing blood, and giving childhood vaccinations following age-appropriate guidelines
  • Monitoring temperature, pulse, breathing, and blood pressure and keeping accurate records
  • Evaluating children for signs and symptoms of abuse
  • Providing supportive care to dying children
  • Dealing with the anxieties and demands of parents, and helping families deal with their child's illness or injury
  • Remaining up to date on the latest developments, rules and regulations, drug therapies, equipment, and treatment procedures
Pediatric Nurse Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Nursing
  • Experience in clinical work as a Pediatric Nurse
  • Good communication skills
  • Emotional and mental strength, dedication, and self-motivation
  • Empathy and the ability to relate to children
  • BLS/PALS completion

Pediatric RN Qualifications / Skills:

  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to hear adequately to perform job duties in person and over the telephone
  2. Able to use stethoscope and respond to verbal questions
  3. Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone
  4. Vision must be acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens
  5. Must have the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required
  6. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service, including injections
  7. Frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift
  8. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment

Teamwork:

1.    Works cooperatively within own department and other areas of BCHS

3.    Responds quickly to requests for assistance

4.    Required to work closely with patients and BCHS associates

5.    Interacts with other employees to resolve challenges and improve systems

       6.    Accepts feedback from patients, visitors, clinic employees, physicians, and general public

BCHS services include: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics; Psychiatry; and Women's Health. BCHS also provides free ultrasound services for all women. There are currently five BCHS locations across Orleans, St, Bernard, and St. Tammany Parishes.
