MATCH Charter Public School
The MATCH School is a small public high school in Boston, MA (near Boston University) and a small public middle school in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. Our mission is to prepare low-income inner-city students to transcend societal expectations and go on to succeed in college and beyond. The college graduation rate among inner-city students nationally is below 10%. Most of our students arrive having failed their most recent state exams. Our mission is to reverse this underachievement. Already MATCH has met the challenge of a disadvantaged and underserved student body: · In early December 2006, the MATCH School became one of 8 charter high schools in the nation cited for outstanding results, out of over 400 reviewed by the US Department of Education. All eight schools were noted for "setting and aggressively pursuing high expectations," "achieving success in closing achievement gaps," and "meeting the needs of underserved students." · The Progressive Policy Institute in Washington DC named MATCH as “Educational Innovators of 2002.” · In June 2003, Hewlett Packard named MATCH as one of 15 High Performing Urban High Schools in the nation. · In October 2003, MATCH was named as one of 9 High Performing Urban Schools in Massachusetts by Mass Inc, a non-partisan think tank. · In November 2003, the U.S. Department of Education named two schools nationwide to pilot new programs to bolster minority participation in Advanced Placement (AP) Classes. MATCH was one of the two. · Since opening, MATCH has been #1 of the 22 open-admission high public schools serving grades 9 through 12 in Boston in statewide math and English exams. This is despite the fact that most MATCH students arrive having failed their 8th grade exams. · MATCH has been featured in the New York Times, Boston Globe, Wall Street Journal, on CNN and NPR, etc., for various innovations. But don’t be fooled! We are not yet satisfied. To fully prepare our students to succeed in college, we need them to succeed in advanced courses, AP classes, on SATs. So even though our kids have come a long way, they need you to truly fulfill their potential.
