Glassroots is a nonprofit organization with a mission to expand accessibility to recycling through education, outreach, and creative reuse of traditional waste. Franziska Trautmann and Max Steitz founded Glass Half Full in 2020 to pursue a goal of recycling New Orleans' glass. After collecting over 600,000 pounds of glass during their first year of operations, they were determined to magnify their impact beyond what could be achieved as a social enterprise. In 2021, they founded Glassroots, a 501c3, to expand access to recycling through educational opportunities and to partner directly with communities to ensure recycling services benefit people and the environments they live in.

Glassroots now operates multiple drop off locations around New Orleans, with more coming to Baton Rouge and The Northshore. We also service multiple schools throughout the city in recycling education and programming. Franziska and Max would like to move away from the day to day operations of Glassroots and hire a Program Director to become the leader of the organization. Currently, Glassroots has five Americorps VISTAs on the team. The VISTA team builds capacity for Glassroots in outreach, fundraising, disaster relief, and education. They are currently managed by Franziska, but this responsibility would transition to the Program Director.
