The Plessy and Ferguson Initiative (PFI) is a social justice nonprofit operating in New Orleans, LA. Descendants of the U.S. Supreme Court case Plessy v Ferguson, Phoebe Ferguson and Keith Plessy, founded PFI in 2009 to teach the history of the landmark court decision and its legacy on African American life and U.S. culture. With intent, the organization’s homebase is in New Orleans, where Homer Plessy lived and was arrested during the Reconstruction Era. As activists who came before us, the staff and board of PFI is committed to work that influences change toward a more just and equitable future.
