BaBa Blankets Marketing Intern: About BaBa Blankets: BaBa Blankets is a social enterprise located in New Orleans and Accra, Ghana. BaBa Blankets sells baskets and blankets created by its women’s collective in Ghana throughout the world. Its flagship store in New Orleans also sells goods from other women’s collectives around the world. Instead of charity, BaBa Blankets relies on proceeds from sales to fund our social development objectives. We feel that this model better reflects our entrepreneurial spirit, as well as our readiness to work in order to support ourselves and our families. The BaBa team is always out and about in the greater New Orleans community. We host holiday events, and participate in festivals and markets. Our mission is to create inspiring cultural works that provide sustainable income and well-deserved development opportunities for African women & girls. The Internship Opportunity: BaBa Blankets is looking for a marketing intern to join its team. The intern will have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of running a social enterprise in addition to gaining hands-on experience building a social media marketing campaign. Also, our marketing intern will gain a perspective on the female experience in Ghana and the work of our collaborative there. We seek a person who enjoys working in an active and progressive work environment. We are looking for someone who is interested in social entrepreneurism, who has experience with social media (such as Twitter, facebook and the blogosphere),open to a wide variety of responsibilities including administrative tasks, on an as needed basis (Excel, Word & PowerPoint skills preferred), be able to provide quality customer service, and work occasional weekend festivals. This is the perfect position for someone who wants to work in a growing business environment with an enterprise committed to humanitarian development, as well as a person who enjoys being part of a start-up social enterprise. The candidate must be bright, energetic, articulate, trustworthy and at best dealing with dynamic circumstances. We are looking for someone who can contribute between 12 – 15 hours a week (this is an unpaid internship).
