Garden District Gallery

Located in the heart of the Garden District at 1332 Washington Avenue, corner Coliseum Street, across from Commanders Palace Restaurant, the Garden District Gallery, New Orleans' newest fine art gallery, is celebrating its inaugural year with a season-long series of monthly themed invitational exhibitions featuring work by local, regional and national artists. The gallery celebrated its grand opening on September 26th with an inaugural group invitational exhibition, the Garden District: En Plein Air, featuring some of the finest landscape painters in the region, painting on site throughout this beautiful, historic neighborhood. This exhibition, which runs through October 31st, celebrates the quiet but significant revolution launched by artists working outdoors in nineteenth century France, the original plein air painters in the forests of Fontainebleau. Upcoming invitationals through the end of 2009 are: November 7 - 30 - Fire, Earth, Air and Water: The Elements - Fourteen women interpret the four elements. December 5 - January 9 - The Language of Flowers - Sixteen artists from New Orleans to China offer their unique visions of flowers, in a variety of mediums. The Garden District Gallery is also offering art workshops throughout the year in a variety of disciplines including watercolor, oil, acrylic, drawing, calligraphy, and plein air landscape painting.
