Latino Farmers Cooperative of Louisiana

The Latino Farmers Cooperative of Louisiana (LFCL) is a demand driven, grassroots nonprofit that strives to organize an integrated community food system in which food becomes a vehicle to better the social and economic life of the Latino Community in the Greater New Orleans area, to enrich the environment, and to improve human welfare. To accomplish its mission, LFCL provides access to land, trainings, education, and support to those interested in participating in urban agriculture. By facilitating urban agriculture, LFCL allows residents to grow healthy food and develop entrepreneurial skills, while simultaneously addressing the socioeconomic issues of the community in the Greater New Orleans area. LFLC operates La Esperanza Neighborhood Farm, a ¾ acre educational urban agriculture park in Harvey, LA just ten miles from downtown New Orleans where children, school groups, emerging urban farmers and gardeners, as well as low-income families come to grow, learn, play, and exercise, all while being good stewards of the environment.
