The Bureau of Governmental Research (BGR) is a private, nonprofit, independent research organization dedicated to informed public policy making and the effective use of public resources for the improvement of government in the New Orleans metropolitan area.

BGR is an objective resource on local public policy. Since our founding in 1932, we have monitored and analyzed government policies, structures, finances and processes to identify critical issues requiring best-practice problem solving. We help voters with non-ideological research and analysis about local millage and charter change proposals at election time. And we hold events to help citizens to hear directly from policymakers about issues of the day and ask questions. 

In short, we make local government work better for all.
