The Maker Movement represents a new era where cheap, easy-to-learn hardware and software tools- tools like 3D printers, Arduinos, and laser cutters-open the door to innovation and creativity.  Makers and other creative types are coming together around the country to learn, collaborate, hack, and build.

MakerState is taking the Maker Movement to the classroom by leveraging these tools to bring science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) learning to life for kids 5-18 through fun, hands-on projects that kids love. Every weekly after-school lab brings a new brain-sharpening challenge and a new demonstrated mastery in real-world STEAM skills for success in the 21st Century. MakerState offers a diverse lab series, including:

  • Lego robotics that teaches engineering
  • Video game creation that teaches computer programming in MIT's Scratch language
  • Stop motion moviemaking that teaches writing
  • 3D printed toy-making that teaches design
  • Etsy shop production that teaches social entrepreneurship
  • Arduino music instrument creation that teaches art through tech

MakerState kids level up video game-style through skills badges in six Masteries:

  • Engineer
  • Author
  • Programmer
  • Designer
  • Artist
  • Entrepreneur

We're excited to partner with 4.0 Schools, Socratic Labs, Makers of New Orleans, and New Orleans Public Schools to bring the MakerState program to New Orleans in the Fall.
