Advocacy Center

Orleans Parish

The Advocacy Center of Louisiana (AC) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization founded in 1977.  The agency was founded pursuant to a federal law establising protection and advocacy systems in each state and territory in the U.S.  Since its inception, AC has sought to advocate for people in three major ways: through direct one-on-one representation; through systems advocacy (changing the systems that serve our clientele); and through education and training so that people are capable of advocating for their own rights.

We strive to remove intentional and unintentional barriers to education, employment, housing, voting, health care and community services for thousands of Louisianians who have a physical, intellectual, or mental disbility or who are over the age of sixty.  To this end, the Advocacy Center of Louisiana brings together a diverse group of people, businesses and organizations around a shared desire to make Louisiana a state where everyone has the opportunities and resources to reach their full potential.  Providing people with disabilities and seniors with the tools and support to thrive at every stage of life creates a better community for all of us.
