St. Vincent de Paul of New Orleans is a volunteer-driven nonprofit which has worked to support people challenged by poverty in the Greater New Orleans region since 1865 through the provision of emergency financial assistance, case management, and access to education, food, and basic needs. We are excited to implement our AmeriCorps VISTA program Nourishing Louisiana, which aims to reduce disparities in access to food and healthcare in impoverished communities across Southeast Louisiana. Our Nourishing LA VISTA Members will have 2 key goals: building capacity at established food distribution sites to meet an increasing demand through volunteer recruitment and community outreach; and building partnerships with local community health organizations to bring mobile health services and education to food distribution sites. SVDP New Orleans aims to break the cycle of poverty by decreasing barriers to crucial basic needs for Louisiana’s most vulnerable residents.
