History

Boys Hope Girls Hope is a privately funded, international non-profit organization that provides a stable home, high-quality education, and critical support to children in need. Although these children are from environments impacted by poverty, mental health issues, and other circumstances beyond their control, Boys Hope Girls Hope scholars are motivated to excel in school and in life.

Boys Hope Girls Hope of New Orleans was founded on the four tenets of HOPE (Home, Opportunity, Parenting, Education) by Father Harry Tompson and Judge Adrian Duplantier. The first home for boys, donated by the Richard Flick family, opened in 1980. By 2001, a second home transitioned to begin serving girls.

Originally named the Jesuit Program for Living and Learning, Boys Hope Girls Hope maintains strong relationships with Jesuit High School, St. Mary’s Dominican High School and Holy Name of Jesus School. Partnerships with other private, college-preparatory schools continue expanding to ensure scholars have a choice of opportunities.

Program

Value-Centered Homes

Located in the mid-city neighborhood of New Orleans, each Boys Hope Girls Hope residence is designed to serve eight scholars. Homes are staffed by college-educated Residential Counselors who oversee daily activities and routines. These nurturing parental-figures teach and model etiquette and values, strong work ethic, and a dedication to academic success.

Well-Educated

Scholars are enrolled in private, college-preparatory partner schools, but education extends beyond the academic classroom. Daily study periods in the home and an intentional focus on college readiness and life skills ensures lasting success. This family-like relationship with comprehensive support continues throughout college and into the workforce.

Career-Ready

Development of key life and leadership skills are obtained through part-time summer jobs, engagement in internships, professional development opportunities, and extra-curricular activities.

As each scholar prepares to embark on the next phase of life, they can envision a career on the horizon. Program graduates are confident in their ability to change future trajectories and provide financial stability for their families.

Men and Women for Others

Boys Hope Girls Hope is a multi-denominational program grounded in strong moral values. Scholars grow spiritually through participation in their family faith traditions while also sharing their time and talents with the local community.

Through volunteering, scholars build character, increase social awareness, and help create a better New Orleans. This holistic approach allows children to develop their faith and ultimately become men and women for others.
