QYP Writing Center
The Queer Youth Project (QYP) Writing Center is now interviewing candidates for our 2009 Summer Writing Internship position. This internship is an opportunity for a young writer to focus on improving writing skills, job skills, and connecting with other professional writers in New Orleans. Housed in the Studio at Colton on St. Claude Avenue, QYP Writing Center strives to integrate LGBT young adults (16 – 22 years old) with the arts community of New Orleans. The internship will last from June though July, consisting of three hours of commitment per week for a total of six weeks. The QYP 2009 Summer Writing Internship will focus on fundamental techniques of writing and critique and yield real-world results for the intern: • Creation of one original poem • Creation of one press release for an event at Colton • Creation of one original short story • Creation of a professional quality resume • Creation of a list of potential magazines for submitting the intern’s work • Meeting with one local author to discuss life as a writer • Meeting with one local bookstore owner • Experience a live literary event such as a poetry reading or book launch • Six weeks with three hours of commitment per week (18 total hours of interning) Unpaid.
