OBJECTIVE To further the mission of this organization by managing and coordinating the Literacy*AmeriCorps program. The goal of the program is to increase services to New Orleans adults in need of literacy services by recruiting, training, supporting, and placing AmeriCorps members. Members are placed in local agencies which have a literacy-related mission. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Coordinates the Literacy*AmeriCorps – New Orleans Program. • Recruits, trains, supports and places AmeriCorps Members. • Communicates regularly with Members, placement sites and parent organization. • Works with sites to resolve problems related to members or program. • Provides complete and accurate program documentation as needed. • Maintains accurate and complete program information. • Enters data into the database. • Participates in monthly conference calls and meetings as set by parent organization (Literacy*AmeriCorps Pittsburgh). • Produces all reports as required by parent organization. • Other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS • Work experience in volunteer management. • Experience with AmeriCorps program preferred. • Excellent written and oral communications skills. • Ability to work with a team and independently. • Demonstrated interest in adult education and community service. • Ability to work well with diverse populations. • Creativity, commitment and problem-solving skills. • Literacy education experience helpful through not required. • Must be at least 17 years of age, and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. • Excellent computer skills including word processing and database experience. • Ability to travel. • Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred but not required.
