Temple Sinai, founded in 1870, is the oldest Reform Jewish Congregation in the State of Louisiana. Temple Sinai is proud of our history of inspired rabbinic leadership committed to Tikkun Olam. The Congregation has an historic tradition of serving the spiritual needs of its diverse membership. Our professional and lay leaders strive to create a congregation that seeks to be a spiritual presence in the lives of its members in order to help cultivate and satisfy their religious, musical, cultural, emotional and intellectual interests and needs.
Our rich history includes a strong tradition of providing quality Jewish programming in the community. The Temple seeks to develop and maintain successful programs which address the history, language, music, theology, and other aspects of Jewish culture. Temple Sinai has built a community that stretches beyond the walls of the synagogue. Through Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Uptown Youth Group, Young Family and Older Adult Programming, Temple Toddlers and our committed lay committees such as Outreach, Social Action and Worship and Ritual, we provide cultural, intellectual and educational programs and activities for all our members.
We are proud of how our members bring their own story to our community—such as those who have a multi-generational history at our congregation, identify as interfaith families, Jews of Color, LGBTQ+, and those new to the city or Congregation Temple Sinai, of all ages and backgrounds who are seeking an inclusive and welcoming Jewish community – a place to call home.
With a Senior Rabbi, Senior Cantor and Rabbi Emeritus, we offer a dynamic blend of worship opportunities that span from the small and intimate to grand classical services incorporating music from our historic pipe organ. Our main sanctuary, constructed in 1928, provides a trulyawe-inspiring space in which to practice Jewish ritual life.
