About Historic BK House & Gardens
The Historic BK House & Gardens (BK House) is a National Historic Landmark built in 1826 and restored to its present condition by renowned author Frances Parkinson Keyes beginning in 1948. An outstanding example of the raised cottage type, it was designed by Francois Correjolles, who incorporated both Creole and American features in a well-detailed residence that remains largely in its original condition. As the only example of its type open to the public, the structure offers a unique educational experience to visitors and furthers the understanding of New Orleans history.
Through its collections, exhibits, educational programs, guided tours, and special events, the museum educates the public about the historical significance of the site, demonstrates the importance of historic preservation, and strives to raise community awareness of New Orleans’ cultural heritage. Interpretive programs focus on the unique history and culture of the French Quarter and those who contributed to it and include historical programming, lectures, film screenings, art classes, concerts, and a summer camp for children.
