Job Description
The mission of the World Trade Center of New Orleans (WTCNO) is to support, promote, and attract international trade and businesses for the benefit of Louisiana. The ultimate indication of success will be the presence of a vigorous and growing international business community, supporting Louisiana’s status as the “gateway to North America.”
While the specific duties of the International Business Development Manager are detailed below, the organization operates with a cross-functional mentality. It is a job with both significant responsibility and significant reward, including exposure to a broad range of businesses and leaders from across the state and around the world, and an opportunity to pay a key role in the strategy and execution in the diversification of Louisiana’s economy. The International Business Development Manager reports to the Director of the World Trade Center New Orleans
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required
Experience: At least 4 years of experience in economic development, membership engagement, business, trade and logistics, and/or sales
Key Success Factors
A successful International Business Development Manager will:
- Develop positive and productive relationships with economic development partners and business stakeholders across Louisiana
- Plan and implement industry-specific business development strategies that align with the strengths of our state’s economy
- Support the Director in management and oversight of international consultants in key markets
- Work closely with partners at Louisiana Economic Development, as well as others throughout the state, to coordinate international business development initiatives
- Develop, curate, and manage a pipeline of prospective companies interested in expanding or relocating to Louisiana
- Support the Director with special projects, research, events, and business development activities
- Develop, plan, and execute marketing outreach strategies to target site selectors and prospective companies
- Support WTCNO member engagement, monitoring involvement and helping to provide value that supports business stability and growth
- Plan and execute signature events, including the Louisiana International Trade Conference and Bertel Awards Annual Luncheon
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Capabilities:
The ideal candidate will possess many of these professional and personal abilities and attributes:
- Demonstrated success in economic development, business, sales, and/or marketing
- Knowledge of the Louisiana trade and economic development sector
- Experience, confidence, independence, and self-starting with a sense of urgency
- Strong experience in lead generation, sales, presentations, deal closing
- Ability to work independently and make intelligent decisions
- Produces accurate work while meeting deadlines, with extraordinary attention to detail
- Communications skills and ability to manage complex relationships, i.e. governmental, community, and business
- Works in a team-oriented, goals-driven organization that emphasizes a friendly culture and takes ownership of work responsibilities
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of CRM tools (HubSpot preferred) and MS Office products
- Ability to travel statewide, as well as domestically and internationally on occasion
- Proficiency in a second language is a plus, but not a requirement
Allowable Substitutions: A combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and skills for the position may be considered in lieu of education and/or experience at the World Trade Center’s discretion.
