Our History

In 1975, the Rape Crisis Center (RCC) was formed to provide services to sexual assault survivors in East Baton Rouge Parish. In 2011, Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response®, or STAR®, was formed as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to expand services to unserved areas within the Capital Region. Subsequently, STAR® expanded services to reach sexual assault survivors across Central and Southeast Louisiana. STAR® now has branches in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Alexandria and a satellite location in New Roads.

Our Impact

STAR® supports survivors of sexual trauma by providing confidential advocacy, counseling, and legal services to survivors at no cost. STAR® also works to improve systems response and prevent sexual violence through community education and partnerships. Each year, our services impact thousands of survivors and families in Central and South Louisiana. Community members can access STAR’s services 24/7 hotline by calling 1-855-435-STAR.
