We are currently seeking Navigators for part- and full-time roles in New Orleans. Navigators are expert education advisors for families. They offer guidance and support in-person, at the workplaces of our employer partners, and virtually through our app. Their job is to engage individuals who have access to EdNavigator’s support, build strong relationships with them, understand their goals, and do whatever it takes to help them reach those goals. This includes helping families create clear educational plans; carefully reviewing and monitoring student progress on a regular basis; proactively offering useful advice, tips and perspective; communicating effectively with families, employers and schools; and coming up with practical solutions to the many challenges that parents and students face along the path to a great education.

Our Navigators bring a wide range of skills and talents to their work, but they share some common traits, including:

  • A fierce belief in the right of every family to a great education
  • A personal connection to and deep roots in their local community
  • 4+ years of demonstrated success working directly with students and/or families
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build and sustain strong, trusting relationships
  • Flexibility, curiosity, an eagerness to learn and adapt, and openness to feedback
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently
  • A bias towards action and the ability to make progress despite uncertainty or ambiguity
  • A high degree of comfort with technology, including our mobile app and web-based tracking systems
  • Creativity, persistence and determination in solving problems and getting results
  • Self-discipline and an ability to work well independently in our virtual organization
  • An eagerness to contribute to our organization’s growth and a friendly, collaborative personality

We are especially interested in passionate, high-achieving teachers, school administrators, guidance counselors, social workers and others who bring expertise in particular areas of specialty (e.g., special education, early childhood education, college readiness, etc.). Language skills (especially Spanish, Vietnames) are a plus. Because we serve families, we tend to work non standard hours.
