Position Summary
Serving alongside paid and volunteer staff, provides vital emergency assistance to communities affected by disasters and increases the level of disaster preparedness for the chapter and the community.
Major Duties
• Acts as part of a team to complete NPRC goals and objectives.
• Attends required training.
• Completes a special project relating to the accomplishment of NPRC goals and objectives.
• Participates in member development/service activities of the NPRC.
• Completes NPRC Member Hour/Activity report on a weekly basis.
• Completes NPRC member portfolio.
• Responds to at least 1 major disaster as part of the Red Cross DSHR system.
• Performs other duties as requested by site staff related to the principle duties and responsibilities of the NPRC program.
Site/Department Specific Responsibilities and Goals
• Provides immediate emergency assistance and case management to victims of local disasters such as house fires, flood, and tornadoes. NPRC should respond to approximately 100 local disaster incidents and serve approximately 300 individuals.
• Each member will be deployed by the chapter on at least 1 national disaster relief assignment for a period of 21 days as a member of the DSHR system.
• Conduct at least 50 community preparedness education programs and distribute 2,000 pieces of safety information to the community.
• Assist in coordination and execution of volunteer training programs to ensure a ready disaster workforce.
• Recruit or re-enroll at least 100 adult disaster response volunteers and 20 bilingual volunteers. 50% of recruited volunteers should remain active and seek additional training and responsibilities.
• Assist in coordinating chapter disaster logistics to include disaster asset and service delivery facility management.
o Conduct or update 50 shelter facility surveys
o Conduct or update 25 chapter vendor agreements
REQUIRMENTS
Education:
• High School diploma or GED, 1-2 years of university or equivalent relevant life experience.
Experience:
• Previous experience and success working with diverse populations.
• At least one year of volunteer or community service experience.
• At least one year of work experience.
Qualifications:
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.
• Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills.
• Ability to mobilize on disaster assignments lasting a maximum of three weeks.
• Demonstrated professionalism, flexibility and initiative.
• Team-oriented.
Other:
• A current valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• At least 21 years of age at the start of the program.
• A U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S.
• Willing to make a 10.5 month commitment and complete at least 1700 hours of service.
