MAJOR DUTIES: The Sr. Appraiser will function as the Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) Agent and Field Appraiser responsible for completing field reviews and processing SAH cases to completion. This position reports directly to the Assistant Valuation Officer (Fieldwork Team Supervisor). The incumbent is responsible for the Specially Adapted Housing Decentralized Program activities and performs the technical duties required in the processing and approval of applications for SAH grants. Counsels eligible veterans and provides information on benefits available, application procedures, and grant disbursement plans. Meets on a case-by-case basis with contractors, architects, escrow agents, lenders, and attorneys to explain VA policies, procedures, and requirements and advises contractors of special features necessary to meet the needs of the veterans. Inspects and reports on existing dwellings to determine feasibility of adaptation and their compliance with SAH construction standards. Incumbent will perform field review duties including appraising and conducting field reviews of the appraisals of property for loan origination, liquidation, or partial release of loan security, sale of VA-owned property, and loss and damage estimates. Recommends disciplinary action against appraisers or inspectors who violate government regulations. Serves as a Specially Adaptive Housing (SAH) Agent responsible for the SAH Program activities within the assigned service area. Performs all duties required in the processing and approval of applications of SAH grants authorized by 38 U.S.C. 2101 (a) and 2101 (b) for specified service connected disabled veterans. Travel within the servicing area is required. Overnight travel outside the servicing area is required on a regular basis; at minimum twice a month. You must have a valid LA state driver's license.
