RESULTS OF NSNO PROGRAMMING AND INVESTMENTS TO DATE
• $33.6 million I3 grant awarded that aligns government actors and school operators around annually turning around bottom 5% of schools in New Orleans
• 35% of open-enrollment charter schools funded by NSNO to launch and expand that serve more than 15,000 students
• 174 leaders and teacher leaders developed by NSNO-invested training programs to serve more than 12,000 students
• 600 teachers recruited to serve in 85% of open-enrollment public charter schools

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Since its inception in 2006, NSNO has raised over $60 million for the city of New Orleans. The ever-changing education landscape will continue to require the mobilization of significant resources – as such, raising funds to serve the city’s decentralized system of schools will remain central NSNO’s work. NSNO’s Development Director will be charged with continuing to raise significant amounts of funds for the children of New Orleans – with the aim of making New Orleans the first truly excellent urban education system in our nation’s history.

Specifically, the Development Director is responsible for the daily execution of NSNO’s fundraising strategy. This role reports to the External Relations partner and works closely with the CEO/Founder and Chief Strategy Officer to ensure necessary resources are available for the effective implementation of NSNO’s development strategy.

The Director of Development will:
• Manage the day-to-day relationships with donors and ensure that the organization stays abreast of deadlines, upcoming meetings, deliverables, and follow-up demands;
• Develop and maintain a calendar of targets, cultivation activities, grant reporting activity, and funding requests;
• Plan, develop and execute events and activities to cultivate and steward potential and existing funders;
• Ensure effective execution of events, operations, tracking systems and donor communications required to support fundraising efforts;
• Manage activities related to the Board’s development committee;
• Interpret each NSNO initiative for multiple audiences, allowing grant-makers at all levels of public education to become engaged with NSNO programs;
• Seek out potential funding opportunities at the federal, state and local levels;
• Collaborate with local education nonprofits, including charter schools, to develop and improve fundraising strategies, grant-writing methods, and data/revenue collection methods thus increasing NSNO’s and the city’s ability to attract needed funds;
? Work with NSNO staff to ensure clarity and adherence to project goals in grant writing and reporting processes;
• Write all donor reports and requests;
• Maintain Excel and Fund Raiser databases of all revenues, pledges, and projections; and
• Maintain internal and external fundraising documents and tools (such as NSNO collateral, PowerPoint presentations, impact statements and website), editing for accuracy and consistency of content.

REQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS
This is an outstanding opportunity to play an integral role in public education reform in New Orleans. Therefore, first and foremost, the Development Director must be committed to the mission of NSNO and aligned with NSNO’s beliefs that:
• Every child deserves an excellent education and it is the responsibility of adults to ensure that this occurs;
• Charter schools and parent choice are critical to the education reform landscape; and
• The successful creation of an excellent system of schools in New Orleans has the potential to be a model for urban school reform nationwide.

Additionally, the successful candidate should have:
• 5+ years of experience leading development efforts in a results-oriented nonprofit environment;
• Experience growing a fundraising program and the systems required to support it;
• A proven track record as a sophisticated relationship-builder who is able to adapt his or her communication style to work effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders with multiple priorities;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• The ability to think strategically, problem-solve, and execute work in a highly entrepreneurial environment;
• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to generate and follow workplans and meet deadlines;
• Outstanding attention to detail; and
• A bachelor’s degree.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will also possess the following professional characteristics:
• Professional knowledge of public charter schools and urban public education
• Familiarity with New Orleans

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Development Director will report directly to the External Relations Partner.

COMPENSATION
Compensation for the position is highly competitive and commensurate with experience. In addition to highly competitive salary ranges, NSNO provides a comprehensive compensation package that meets or exceeds that level of benefits provided by many of the most respected organizations in our industry. Benefits are largely subsidized by the organization, including a 90% premium coverage for individual health insurance. With a generous 4% retirement match, as well as subsidized dental and short-term disability insurance, NSNO is at the top end of education non-profits in overall compensation according to a national study.
