RESEARCH AND EDUCATION INTERN
Transport for NOLA, New Orleans’ leading transportation advocacy, education and outreach non-profit, seeks a ‘Research and Advocacy Intern’ interested in gaining hands-on experience working for a non-profit. The intern will work alongside our Executive Director and Board Members and assist in conducting research on critical transportation issues confronting New Orleans and developing education campaigns.
Current students and recent graduates with degrees in public policy, transportation planning, urban planning, urban studies or related fields are encouraged to apply. Depending on skills and interests, intern projects may include:
1. Research
• Prepare policy briefs and white papers on topics to advance Transport for NOLA’s education, outreach and advocacy agenda. Topics may include:
i. Current and potential financing sources for transit operations and capital improvements
ii. Transit agency board composition and education best practices
iii. Engagement and education in transportation planning and decision-making
iv. Transportation and Public Health
• Monitor the pulse of transportation planning and decision-making in New Orleans and the greater region and propose new areas for advocacy and research
2. Education
• Assist in the design and implementation of our education strategy
• Develop fact sheets for education campaigns
• Participate in our mobile engagement team to get the word out to bus and streetcar riders on our advocacy campaigns
The intern will need a personal computer for the position and shall possess skills and talent that include:
• Self-motivated and detail-oriented with exemplary writing abilities
• Willingness to work as a team and share ideas openly
• Familiarity with project management, timelines, schedules, coordination
Availability: Transport for NOLA is seeking 1 intern to work with our Executive Director for 8 – 12 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months. Hours are flexible. This position is open immediately.
Location: The intern can work remotely but must commit to working from Transport for NOLA’s headquarters at 220 Camp Street at least once per week.
Benefits: This is an unpaid position. Gain excellent experience working with our Executive Director and Board. Become familiar with current urban planning issues in New Orleans and network with local leaders. Receive school credit where applicable, references for future employment, and reimbursement for approved expenses relating to work.
