Position Profile:

The Girls on the Run of New Orleans Executive Director (ED) must possess a commitment to improving the lives of and opportunities for girls in third through eighth grades. The Girls on the Run program provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living, introducing important topics such as goal-setting, cooperation, decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event. The innovative curriculum teaches girls to listen and share and to harness the inner strength that they possess.

The Girls on the Run ED is responsible for the overall implementation of the Girls on the Run mission. The ED reports to the Girls on the Run of New Orleans Board of Directors. Job responsibilities include developing and implementing the overall strategy and vision for the Girls on the Run program and overseeing all organizational and operational aspects of Girls on the Run including administration, financial operations, revenue generation, program development and activities, personnel management and strategic planning.

PLEASE NOTE: The ED must be flexible and adaptable with time commitment, working approximately 20-30 hours per week. The schedule includes non-traditional part-time hours with the possibility to transition to full-time position in the future.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Program and Staff Management
• Developing and fostering a strong and open dialogue with the Board of Directors and Girls on the Run International
• Attracting, developing and retaining staff and interns

Program Development and Strategic Planning
• Planning, in coordination with the Board, for the direction and leadership of the overall program
• Cultivating relationships with coaches, parents, participants, donors, sponsors and volunteers
• Acting as ambassador to represent Girls on the Run’s mission and programs

Organizational Administration
• Overseeing all program coordination at program sites throughout New Orleans
• Developing and implementing necessary policies and procedures
• In coordination with the Board, Identifying and planning for infrastructure growth to parallel growth of program
• Developing relationships with the local media and serving as the Girls on the Run spokesperson to market the program and build additional community support
• Visiting sites throughout New Orleans with reliable transportation

Budget and Financial Management
• Planning and managing Girls on the Run’s budget and finances in coordination with the Board
• Overseeing and engaging in planning and implementation of fundraising plan which includes special events, grant applications, and other fundraising activities
• Identifying and cultivating local corporate partnerships

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging in both strategic activities as well as taking a hands-on role with regards to program execution and administrative issues.

Required Qualifications

• BA or BS degree
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of demonstrated experience with organizational management and development in for-profit and/or non-profit
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams
• Ability to promote and commit to Girls on the Run’s mission and to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health
• Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences (internal and external)
• High comfort level with public speaking and being the FACE of Girls on the Run
• Demonstrated experience setting and managing budgets and financial planning
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions
• Attend Girls on the Run International Training one of the following weekends: April 27th 28th or October 16th-17th or 23rd-24th or 30th and 31st

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Public Health, Social Work, Business, or related field
• Strategic planning experience
• Experience with Girls on the Run (or other similar youth or wellness programs)
• Experience working with a Board of Directors
• Connections to the local New Orleans community
• Able to work from home with internet access and cell phone
CPR and First Aid certified
