Lapeyre Stair, Inc., a growing division of Laitram, L.L.C., is seeking a Structural Engineer. This position will be based in Laitram’s Harahan, Louisiana office. Lapeyre Stair is the manufacturer of the unique Alternating Tread Stair invented by our founder J. M. Lapeyre. In recent years, we have expanded our product line to include designs for conventional stairs, landings, and platform systems. Our innovative designs and breakthrough manufacturing equipment and techniques position us to be highly successful in pre-engineered access device markets.

Responsibilities:
· Develop new stair and platform system designs, conduct seismic, wind, snow, etc. load analyses
· Review architectural drawings to determine design requirements, monitor building codes for changes, maintain and update building code library.
· Compose and submit proposed code changes, attend code hearings to advocate proposed code changes, train other employees on codes.
· Maintain product specifications and other duties as required.
· Complete Staad analysis on all new products and customers designs.
· Work with Customer Service when required to assist customers.
· Work with Designers when required to assure structural requirements are met.
· Train Customer Service and Designers on changes in the building codes as required.
· Review building codes and prepares/submits proposed changes as required.
· Work with third party engineering firm(s) on projects requiring PE stamps.

Requirements:
· B. S. Degree in Structural Engineering discipline.
· Previous experience in stair design, stair systems, walkways, catwalks, platforms, walking surface systems.
· Demonstrated experience with building codes, interpreting building code data and maintaining building code data a plus.
· Experience with CAD.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience.
· Excellent organizational and communication skills.
· A self-managed team player.
· Travel required.

Desired Qualifications:
· Licensed Professional Engineer
· Experience in STAAD Structural Analysis and other FEA packages
· AutoCAD and Solidworks preferred but not required.
· Project Management
· Previous experience in a construction environment and estimating projects
